Victoria Falls Carnival returns, bigger and louder

The Victoria Falls Carnival has always been the country's loudest send-off to the year — three days of music in the spray of the falls. This year it comes back with a bigger main stage, a second sunset stage, and a line-up that leans harder into regional acts than the festival has ever risked before.

Organisers say the shift is deliberate. Where past editions chased a marquee international headliner, this year's bill is built from acts that already sell out rooms in Harare, Bulawayo, Lusaka and Maputo. The bet is that the region's own stars now travel — and the early ticket data backs it.

Logistics remain the hard part. Moving thousands of people to a small tourist town for one weekend strains everything from accommodation to the road in. The team has staggered entry by camping tier and moved every wristband onto a phone, which cut last year's gate queue by more than half.

The carnival's appeal was always the setting, and that hasn't changed. But the story this year is the music catching up to the backdrop — a festival that no longer needs a flown-in name to fill the floor.
